Alex Hsu
is a furniture designer and artist from New Hope, PA, a quaint, arts town on the Delaware river, a hub for early 20th century American Impressionist painting and home to George Nakashima’s furniture studio.
The son of an architect, he learned from a young age the impact of the spaces we inhabit and the importance of the things we put in them. Fascinated by the ingenuity and structure of natural systems, he studied neuroscience in undergrad before swapping his lab coat for a shop apron. A few years after receiving his bachelor’s degree, he spent time down under, in Melbourne, AUS, before returning to Providence, RI to complete his MFA in furniture design from the Rhode Island School of Design.
In addition to working with his hands, he is an avid cyclist. He biked across the US from Maine to California, advocating for and building affordable housing. Years later, he embarked on a second tour, this time around Scandinavia and the Baltic States.
Alex’s studio is located in sunny Los Angeles.
